SCHOOL OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES
- Basic Graphic Design Basic Graphic Design
This course is both theory and practical. Basic illustration and drawing will be introduced. Elements of art (color theory, line, texture, form, shape, space, value) will be a focus. Utilizing mixed materials to create projects another area of emphasis will be typography, vector and raster based digital file development.
- Digital Publishing Digital Publishing
This course specializes in the printed product. Students will utilize programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Pagemaker and Freehand to construct various publishing projects including brochures, posters, menus, short books, newspaper layout and web design. Emphasis will be given to basic writing techniques in conjunction with image and typographic style and content.
- Design Communication Design Communication
Emphasizing the commercial world of graphic arts this course will focus on advertising, illustration, perspectives and profiles, business strategies, and analysis and critiques. From billboards to press releases , from business cards to specialized campaigns design communication seeks to give the student a deeper understanding of the visual language that is everywhere.
- Digital Imaging Digital Imaging
Essentially a photography course, digital imaging will explore the practical possibilities of digital composition, manipulation and production. Using Adobe Elements as basic tool the art of taking (portraits, landscapes, motion, light, macro and micro subjects) and printing photographs will be explored. Some background and theory of the history of photography will also be introduced.
- Introduction to Web Page Development Introduction to Web Page Development
This class will explore the fundamentals of web design. Using web based programs like macromedia flash students will build their own pages. A focus on basic web writing and image and graphic gathering will be integrated. New experimental web designs will be studied giving students a broader outlook on the future of the web.
