About the SJC Art Centre

Student Showcase

Every month the SJC Art Centre will feature outstanding students whose works show promise and potential. With a pool of over 450 enrolled students in our art program it will be a challenge to narrow down students to showcase, but it is important for us to promote and celebrate the hard work and dedication of our students.

Jia Cheng Wu

Jia Cheng Wu is a recent graduate of SJC and one of the most outstanding students to pass through the Art Centre. Cheng was born in Guang Dong, China and moved with his parents to Belize at the age of 7. In his childhood Cheng was exposed to many things that provide the spark for his art including science books about animals, the Discovery and Learning Channels. He especially loved dinosaurs and monsters and would draw them over and over. His parents recognized his talent and attraction for drawing at an early age and encouraged their son to express himself through this medium.

Jia Cheng attended SJC High School and Junior College focusing on science. In 2007 he gained national recognition by winning the Caribbean Examination Council’s (CXC) regional art award. This an accomplishment never before achieved by a Belizean student in art. It established that in that year Cheng was the most outstanding student artist in the entire Caribbean. Cheng continues to make art while working in the private sector doing IT work. He hopes to one day become a successful artist and programmer for a electronic gaming company.

Aaron Rhaburn

Aaron Rhaburn is currently a 4th form student at Edward P. York High School in Belize City. As part of the Art Centre’s outreach program to offer art classes Rhaburn is taking full advantage of the opportunity.

He is an outstanding talent especially in pencil, pen and ink and charcoal drawing. His skill for detail, precision and accuracy is unique.

Since Primary School Rhaburn has had an interest in art. He has pursued that passion with intensity and dedication. He will be taking the art CXC this year and is expected to excel. Featured on this site are a few examples of his drawings and graphic designs.
