It is important for the members of the College community and parents/guardians to understand that counseling is confidential in nature and the information regarding counseling sessions cannot be released without a student's written permission. The areas of confidentiality include whether the student has or has not come to the Centre and the content of the sessions.
However, confidentiality considerations do not prohibit counsellors from discussing ways in which parents/guardians and teachers can be helpful in dealing with the issues that their students and sons or daughters, respectively, are confronting. These discussions are held with a counsellor other than the one working with the student in question.
These rules hold true for all cases, except in emergency situations where there is (1) a clear and present danger that someone's life is at risk (2) case of apparent abuse of a child and (3) by court order.
Counseling is done in a safe, comfortable and private environment. Students and parents are invited to contact us for further information.
