Philosophy
The school’s intramural athletic program affords needed relaxation, physical exercise and wholesome companionship. It is the belief that such a program will develop leadership qualities among our students. They will need to work with each other learning to maximize on each other’s strength. They will learn to become competitive which will be a driving force in their lives as they seek to be the best Belize has to offer.
National Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA)
High school sporting events are organized by a local and a national sports association which fall under the umbrella of the Belize Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (BAPSS).
St. John’s College participates in the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association which consists of the high schools in the Belize District. Our Wildcats compete yearly in volleyball, basketball and football (soccer). Our students also compete in track & field events. Once we win a Central Division championship in any of the team sports, we then participate in the National Tournament organized by the National Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA).
Catholic Athletic Conference
This conference falls under the umbrella of the Belize Catholic Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (BCAPSS). Students from the eleven Catholic high schools across the country compete in one-day sporting events. The Catholic Athletic Conference is limited only to first and second form student-athletes.
Intramurals
Homerooms get to compete almost daily in the intramural sporting events. Homerooms compete with each other by forms. Students compete in volleyball, basketball, softball and football. Students also compete in a marathon and a bicycle road race. All the events lead up to our annual Sports Day.
SJC Triathlon
Since October 2007 SJC has been organizing a triathlon involving students in swimming, running and cycling. While the triathlon was first a fundraiser to help put funds together to build a new bathroom, it is slowly becoming a tradition with pride on the line for students in the different disciplines.
