    On Tuesday, April 1st, SJCJC-U proudly hosted its highly anticipated annual Student Council Speech Rally for the upcoming 2025–2026 elections! This event has become a cherished tradition within our institution, serving not only as a platform for candidates to express their aspirations but also as a celebration of student engagement and democratic participation. This year, a remarkable total of sixteen bold and brilliant candidates took the stage, each one eager to share their unique vision, deep passion, and unwavering commitment to serve the diverse and vibrant student body that makes up our community. From innovative ideas that promise to enhance student life to heartfelt pledges aimed at fostering inclusivity and support, it’s abundantly clear that our future leaders are not only ready but also enthusiastic about making a significant impact in the lives of their peers! This rally also marked a bittersweet moment in our school's history, as we listened to the poignant farewell speeches of the outgoing Student Council—a dedicated team that has led with exceptional integrity, remarkable resilience, and an unwavering dedication to improving student life throughout their term. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed, as they have tirelessly worked to advocate for student needs, organize engaging events, and create a sense of community among the student body. The heartfelt words shared during their farewell speeches served as a reminder of the positive changes they have implemented and the lasting legacy they leave behind.   • House Cup Games 2025 – A Spectacular Finale to Spirit Month!

    On March 28, the energy was at an all-time high as the Great Houses of Locke, Zinkle, Weber, and Thompson battled it out in the highly anticipated House Cup Games! Students and faculty came together to compete in track events, cornhole, chess tournaments, and more, racking up points for their houses in a thrilling display of skill, teamwork, and school spirit. This record-breaking event was the most attended of the school year, with an electric atmosphere from start to finish. After an intense competition, Thompson House emerged victorious, reclaiming the title from last year’s champions, Zinkle! A huge shoutout to everyone who participated, cheered, and made this event unforgettable. Until next year—who will take the House Cup next?

    A huge congratulations to our talented students who proudly represented Belize at the 2da Copa Titanes de Mérida 2025, a prestigious event sanctioned by World Athletics! Their hard work, dedication, and passion for the sport have brought home incredible achievements: Nyasha Harris – 1st (100m) | 2nd (200m) | 2nd (4x400m) | 3rd (4x100m) Jada Logan – 2nd (4x400m) | 3rd (4x100m) | 4th (Long Jump) Angel Pech – 1st (4x400m Mixed Relay) | 2nd (4x400m Open Relay) We are beyond proud of their outstanding performances and the way they represented our country on the international stage!

  • A Journey of Faith Through Art: Samir Habet's Stations of the Cross

    This Lenten season, St. John’s College Junior College (SJCJC) undertook a remarkable initiative that transformed the act of reflection into a captivating form of art. In an inspiring collaboration with former student and talented artist Samir Habet, the Campus Ministry Department proudly unveiled a breathtaking series of hand-painted murals that vividly depict the 14 Stations of the Cross. Each mural serves not only as a visual representation of Christ’s journey but also as a powerful reminder of the themes of sacrifice, redemption, and hope that are central to the Lenten season. For Habet, the creative process involved in this project was much more than merely applying paint to canvas; it was a deeply personal act of meditation and spiritual exploration. As he meticulously crafted each mural, he immersed himself in the stories and emotions associated with each station, allowing himself to connect with the trials and tribulations faced by Christ. This journey of creation became a form of prayer for him, a way to express his faith and reflect on the significance of the events that the Stations of the Cross represent. The result of this artistic endeavor is a stunning display of faith which, invited students, faculty, and visitors alike to pause and reflect on the meaning of the Lenten season.   • A Wild Night at the Belize Zoo!

    Our enthusiastic group of 2nd-year Tourism majors recently embarked on an unforgettable Nocturnal Zoo Tour, immersing themselves in the captivating world of Belize’s incredible wildlife after dark! This unique experience was not just a simple outing; it was an educational adventure that allowed students to witness the vibrant ecosystem of Belize in a whole new light. Under the guidance of knowledgeable and passionate experts, the interactive tour provided students with the opportunity to engage directly with Belize’s fascinating nocturnal creatures, such as the elusive jaguar, the playful kinkajou, and the mesmerizing owls that soar silently through the night. The students were filled with excitement and anticipation, ready to deepen their understanding of the country’s rich biodiversity. The tour was carefully designed to highlight the unique adaptations and behaviors of these nocturnal animals, showcasing how they thrive in the lush environments of Belize. Students learned about the vital roles these creatures play in their ecosystems. Throughout the evening, the students were encouraged to ask questions and participate in discussions, fostering a deeper appreciation for wildlife conservation and the importance of protecting these remarkable species and their habitats. The guides shared intriguing facts and stories about each animal encountered, enriching the experience and sparking curiosity among the students. This immersive night tour not only enhanced their academic knowledge but also provided lasting memories and a profound connection to Belize's natural heritage. The blend of education and adventure made it an experience they won’t soon forget, inspiring many to consider future careers in wildlife conservation, ecotourism, or environmental education. The Nocturnal Zoo Tour was truly a highlight of their academic journey, leaving them with a deeper respect for nature and a commitment to preserving its wonders for generations to come!

    On Tuesday March 18, our Business Communication class proudly hosted an engaging and dynamic Business Mixer, an event meticulously designed to foster connections and facilitate discussions between students and industry professionals. This gathering not only served as a platform for networking but also as an invaluable opportunity for attendees to gain insights into the ever-evolving landscape of the business world. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as participants mingled, exchanged ideas, and explored potential collaborations. A huge thank you to our incredible speakers, whose contributions were instrumental in making this event a resounding success:  Ms. Maslin Hower  Ms. Dawn Ortiz  Ms. Susan Ferguson These distinguished speakers brought a wealth of knowledge and a diverse range of experiences to the table. Their presentations covered critical topics such as effective communication strategies, the importance of leadership in driving team success, and the key attributes that contribute to achieving personal and professional goals in the competitive business environment. Each speaker shared personal anecdotes and case studies that not only captivated the audience but also provided practical insights that students could apply in their own career journeys. Furthermore, the event featured interactive Q&A sessions, allowing attendees to engage directly with the speakers, ask questions, and delve deeper into specific areas of interest. This interaction not only enhanced the learning experience but also encouraged students to think critically about their future careers and the skills they need to develop. The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their appreciation for the opportunity to learn from such accomplished professionals.   • Giving Back with Compassion

    This past Sunday, a dedicated group of our amazing students came together to participate in a heartfelt feeding project aimed at supporting the homeless community, all of which took place at the welcoming Pallotti High School Campus. After successfully serving the meals on campus, the students noticed that they had a few extra plates left over. Rather than letting this food go to waste, they took the initiative to head down to Albert Street and Regent, demonstrating their dedication to ensuring that more individuals in need received a warm meal and a moment of kindness. This proactive approach not only extended their outreach but also highlighted the importance of community engagement and responsibility. Each act of kindness, no matter how small, contributes to a larger impact, and these students exemplified that beautifully by going the extra mile to make a difference in the lives of others. Their selflessness and compassion serve as a powerful reminder of the positive change that can be created through collective efforts and the importance of caring for those around us.

    The SJC Wildcats have once again demonstrated their unparalleled prowess on the volleyball court, continuing their impressive streak of victories and maintaining an undefeated record throughout the season. Their latest triumph in the highly competitive NEXGEN Cup has solidified their reputation as a formidable force in the league. This remarkable achievement is not just a testament to their skill and teamwork, but also highlights the dedication and hard work that each player has invested in their training and preparation. As they celebrated their victory, the Wildcats not only claimed the coveted NEXGEN Cup but also proudly reinforced their status as the NSSSA Champions, representing St. John's College with great honor. Each member of the Wildcats showcased exceptional talent on the court, executing plays with precision and showcasing their strategic understanding of the game. The coaching staff's guidance and the players' relentless spirit have been instrumental in their journey, fostering a culture of excellence and resilience. As they look ahead, the Wildcats are poised to continue their legacy, aspiring to build on their current success and inspire future generations of athletes at St. John's College. The victory not only marks a significant milestone in their season but also serves as a reminder of the power of teamwork, perseverance, and the pursuit of greatness in the world of sports.

  • LMU x SJCJC: A Transformative Alternative Break in Belize

    From March 1-8, 2023, a dynamic group from Loyola Marymount University—comprising nine enthusiastic students, two dedicated student leaders, and two committed staff representatives—embarked on a transformative journey to Belize for an eye-opening Alternative Break experience. This journey was not just a trip; it was an immersive exploration into the rich tapestry of Belizean culture, history, and the enduring effects of colonization. Hosted by St. John's College Junior College (SJCJC) for the third consecutive year, the trip was centered around the thought-provoking theme: "The Legacies of Colonization: Education & Language in Belize." This theme served as a lens through which the group examined the complex interplay between historical colonization and its lasting impacts on contemporary education systems and linguistic diversity within Belize. The students engaged deeply with this theme, gaining insights into how the legacies of the past continue to shape the lives of individuals and communities today.  What they experienced:  The group attended a series of enlightening lectures on English, Spanish, and Belizean Literature at SJCJC, where they delved into the nuances of language and its role in identity formation, cultural expression, and social justice. These academic sessions provided a solid foundation for understanding the historical context and contemporary significance of the languages spoken in Belize.  They engaged with Project Heal at St. Martin’s De Porres School, where they participated in various activities aimed at supporting the local community and fostering educational development. This hands-on involvement allowed them to witness the challenges faced by students and educators in Belize, as well as the resilience and creativity that characterize the local approach to overcoming these obstacles.  The group visited marginalized communities across Belize, where they had the opportunity to interact with residents and learn about their daily lives, struggles, and triumphs. These visits were eye-opening, as they highlighted the disparities that exist within the country, as well as the strength and solidarity of the communities working towards social change. Beyond the classroom, they explored significant Maya cultural sites in northern and western Belize, such as t he ancient ruins of Xunantunich and the breathtaking landscapes of the Cayo District. They connected with communities in Yo Creek, Valley of Peace, and Gales Point Manatee, where they engaged in cultural exchanges that enriched their understanding of the diverse heritage of Belize. These experiences allowed them to appreciate the deep historical roots and vibrant traditions that continue to thrive in the region. Through these multifaceted experiences, the group witnessed firsthand how Jesuit education intertwines faith and justice, emphasizing the importance of service, reflection, and the pursuit of social equity. They left Belize transformed, inspired, and deeply grateful for this meaningful journey that not only broadened their perspectives but also deepened their commitment to advocating for justice and understanding in their own communities.

  • Signa Yorke Lecture Series at SJCJC-U

    On Tuesday, February 18, 2024. we had the distinct honor of hosting Ashley Lightburn, a brilliant mathematician whose work has significantly contributed to the field of mathematics, as well as an inspiring advocate for Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Her presence was part of the esteemed Signa Yorke Lecture Series at St. John's College, a platform dedicated to promoting intellectual discourse and showcasing influential figures in various fields. The event drew a diverse audience, including students, faculty, and community members, all eager to engage with Ashley's insights and experiences. Throughout her career, Ashley has not only excelled in her academic pursuits but has also been a passionate supporter of initiatives aimed at increasing the representation of women in STEM disciplines. During her lecture, she shared her personal journey, highlighting the challenges she faced as a woman in a predominantly male field and the importance of perseverance and resilience. Her story resonated deeply with attendees, particularly young women aspiring to enter STEM careers. In addition to her compelling narrative, Ashley provided valuable perspectives on the current landscape of STEM education and the critical need for mentorship and support systems that empower women.   • SJCJC-U Health Fair 2025

    On February 11th , St. John’s College Junior College-University proudly hosted a highly successful Health Fair , dedicated to promoting holistic well-being for our vibrant community of students, faculty, and staff! This event was designed not only to inform but also to inspire a deeper understanding of health and wellness in all its forms. Our keynote speaker for the day, the esteemed Maryam Abdul Qawiyy —who is not only a prominent news anchor and a morning host for 7News but also a former Miss Belize delegate and a certified yoga instructor—delivered an incredibly insightful talk on the multifaceted importance of mental, spiritual, and physical health . Her presentation emphasized the interconnectedness of these elements and how they collectively contribute to a person’s overall quality of life. Following her talk, she led an engaging yoga session that captivated attendees, sharing practical techniques for mindfulness and relaxation that participants could incorporate into their daily routines to manage stress and enhance their mental clarity. In addition to the keynote address, the Health Fair featured several informative booths hosted by our enthusiastic student clubs , along with vital contributions from local organizations such as the Red Cross and the Blood Bank . These booths served as platforms for education and engagement, where students learned about crucial health topics, including: The importance of blood donation - Highlighting how each donation can save lives and the ongoing need for blood in our communities. Monitoring sugar and blood pressure levels - Providing insights into how regular monitoring can prevent serious health issues and promote proactive health management. The effects of substance abuse - Raising awareness about the risks associated with substance use and offering resources for support and recovery. We extend a huge thank you to Maryam and everyone who participated in making this event a truly enriching experience for all involved! The collaborative efforts of our faculty, staff, and students exemplified the spirit of community and the commitment to prioritizing health and well-being. Let’s continue to champion and prioritize our well-being in all aspects of life, fostering a culture of health that encourages everyone to thrive both personally and collectively. Together, we can build a healthier future for ourselves and those around us.
