This weekend, our Men’s Varsity Basketball Team brought their A-game to the Central Region Basketball Tournament at the Belize Civic Center. In their first matchup, our Wildcats dominated the SPJC Marlins with exceptional teamwork and determination. However, the second game proved challenging, as they faced a tough defeat against WJC. We are incredibly proud of our team's dedication, sportsmanship, and relentless effort on the court. You represented SJCJC-U with heart and determination, and we can’t wait to see what you’ll accomplish next!

As part of the vibrant St. John Berchmans’ Day celebrations, SJCJC-U students brought smiles, laughter, and unforgettable moments to primary school students across Belize City. The day’s activities were a heartfelt tribute to the Jesuit commitment to service and community engagement, coinciding with the global observance of World Children’s Day. With enthusiasm and dedication, various clubs and academic departments came together to plan and execute a series of service projects tailored to bring joy and inspiration to the young minds. From engaging games to hands-on creative projects, the activities were designed to ignite laughter and cultivate meaningful connections. For the SJCJC-U community, the day was not just about giving—it was about building bonds, sharing joy, and embodying the Ignatian spirit of being "men and women for and with others." SJCHS students and faculty visiting the OAS headquarters in Washington DC. The St. John’s College delegation recently returned from an inspiring and impactful trip to Washington, D.C. The journey began with a visit to the Organization of American States headquarters, where the group had the honor of meeting H.E. Nestor Mendez, Assistant Secretary General and a proud Belizean. The delegation then visited the Belize Embassy for an insightful discussion with H.E. Ambassador Lynn Young, who shared valuable perspectives on diplomacy and Belize’s role on the international stage. H.E. Nestor Mendez and H.E. Lynn Young are alums of Saint John's College. The group also explored Georgetown University, a prestigious Jesuit institution, where they experienced its rich academic environment and reflected on the shared values of Jesuit education. During the Model Organization of American States, students from across the Americas collaborated, exchanged ideas, and proposed solutions to pressing global issues. The energy and passion displayed by these young leaders were truly inspiring, highlighting the power of unity and dialogue in addressing challenges. This trip was a remarkable experience that showcased the talent and dedication of our St. John’s College students. We are proud of their achievements and excited to see how they will use these experiences to impact their communities and beyond.

Last weekend, 50 of our dedicated student leaders from SJC High School joined hundreds of peers from Catholic high schools nationwide for the National Catholic High School Student Leadership Conference. This event brought students together for a weekend of inspiring activities aimed at deepening faith, building leadership skills, and reinforcing the principles of integrity and service. Throughout the conference, students engaged in meaningful discussions, faith-based activities, and collaborative sessions designed to empower them to become compassionate and effective leaders. We are incredibly proud of our students' commitment to personal growth and their dedication to becoming positive influences in their schools and communities. Reflecting on a transformative journey, we are proud to celebrate the return of our student leaders who represented St. John’s College at the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice in Washington, D.C. This annual gathering brought together thousands of passionate advocates from Jesuit schools across the United States to reflect, learn, and act on pressing social justice issues. The Teach-In, rooted in the Jesuit tradition of faith and action, offered our students an invaluable opportunity to explore topics such as environmental justice, immigration reform, and racial equality. Through powerful keynote sessions, engaging workshops, and meaningful discussions, our student leaders deepened their understanding of these critical issues and connected with a broader community committed to advocacy and change. The event also featured an Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill, where students had the opportunity to meet with policymakers and voice their concerns about policies affecting their communities and the world. Congratulations to our SJCJC Wildcats! 🏆 Our Male Wildcats Volleyball Team has once again brought home the GOLD, successfully defending their title at the ATLIB National Volleyball Championship! Meanwhile, our Female Wildcats Team also put up a fantastic performance, proudly taking home the BRONZE. Held on Saturday, October 26 at the UB Gymnasium, the tournament showcased the Wildcats' fierce determination, exceptional teamwork, and remarkable skill. Both teams competed with heart and resilience, representing SJCJCU with pride and spirit. We are incredibly proud of our Wildcats for their hard work, passion, and commitment. Topics included: * Policies and challenges in combating gender violence * Opportunities for strengthening regional cooperation * Legal frameworks and mental health considerations The afternoon was both informative and engaging, fostering meaningful discussions among students and speakers alike. On September 3rd, the St. John’s College Junior College and University (SJCJC-U) community proudly came together to launch Belize’s September Celebrations in a heartfelt Flag Raising Ceremony on campus. Under this year’s theme, “A Nation Proud and Free: Belize at 43!” , faculty, students, and staff gathered in unity to honor the nation’s rich heritage and celebrate its continued journey of independence. The ceremony began with a reflective blessing from Fr. Jeremy Zipple, who reminded the audience of the importance of working together to create positive change in Belize, guided by the Jesuit values of service and justice. Fr. Antonio Vega followed with a prayer for safe and joyous celebrations throughout the month, emphasizing the importance of community and gratitude. As the Belize Defense Force ceremoniously raised the nation’s flag, the campus echoed with the powerful notes of the National Anthem, evoking a sense of pride and reverence among all present. A special highlight of the event was a captivating performance by Lennox Awardo, a talented SJCJC-U student and music enthusiast. His original patriotic song, “Gimmie Old Belize,”  resonated deeply with the audience, capturing the beauty and spirit of the Belizean identity. The SJC Steel Orchestra added to the festive atmosphere, showcasing the creativity and talent within the school community. The Flag Raising Ceremony set a vibrant tone for the September Celebrations, inspiring a collective spirit of pride, unity, and reflection on what it means to be Belizean. “This event reminds us of the strength of our shared history and the potential we hold as a nation,” said one participant. As we continue to embrace the theme of “A Nation Proud and Free” , SJCJC-U encourages everyone to celebrate with a sense of gratitude, joy, and commitment to building a brighter future for Belize. St. John's College High School (SJCHS) is thrilled to announce the completion of a much-anticipated renovation to the school cafeteria kitchen, which is already making a significant impact on the school community. This rejuvenation is set to improve the quality of meals and enhance the overall dining experience for students, faculty, and staff alike. The updated kitchen, now equipped with modern appliances and improved facilities, will allow for better meal preparation, increased efficiency, and healthier options for everyone who relies on the school's cafeteria. The project was a long-awaited upgrade that ensures the kitchen is prepared to meet the demands of the growing school community. On behalf of the entire SJCHS community, we would like to express our tremendous gratitude to Mr. Li Mark Chang for his generous support in making this project possible.
